After a hot start at the American Century Championship, Charles Barkley stumbled to a disappointing weekend in Lake Tahoe. It also meant that he lost a pretty sizeable side bet.
The NBA legend opened the “Super Bowl of Celebrity Golf” with an 81, his best score in 30 years of playing in the annual event. That even included a spectacular hole-out eagle from 88 yards.

Barkley was in the top 25 after Day 1, a particularly impressive position given his past and the fact that Caesar’s had set his over/under line at 65.5 for the 90-person field. But he failed to break 90 the final two days and wound up in 69th place. And with that, he lost a pre-tournament wager he had made with CBS golf analyst and former PGA Tour player Colt Knost.
“Bet, Colt, whatever you want to bet,” Barkley had told Knost while appearing on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio. “And make it light on yourself.”

Well, it doesn’t look like the two went too light on that bet as judged by the photo Knost gleefully shared on Instagram Sunday night:
That’s a LOT of cash. “Nothin better than @charleswbarkley money!!! Better luck next year!” Knost captioned the photo. Ouch.
So, congrats to Colt. And to former NHL player Joe Pavelski for winning the event, by the way. And to Chuck, well, like Colt said: Better luck next year.
