Amajor championship is as good of a time as any to make your first LPGA Tour hole in one. Leona Maguire aced the second hole at the Amundi Evian Championship during the first round of the major. The hole-in-one helped her along to a six-under 65 and a tie for the clubhouse lead.
“It was just taking a little bit off an 8-iron for me. Looked good in the air. You’re never sure on that hole until the ball actually lands,” Maguire said of the 164-yard downhill shot. “Sort of a perfect morning for it. Not much wind which is nice, especially on that tee box.”
This is where we’d usually share a video of the hole-in-one, but somehow, no video was taken of the shot.

The two-time LPGA winner started her first round on the back nine, opening with a bogey and then quickly recovering with four birdies on the next eight holes. Her second nine was bogey-free, including only pars, the hole-in-one and one birdie.
“Just played really nice,” Maguire said after her round. “Hit a lot of fairways. Hit a lot of greens. Gave myself some really good chances sort of 11, 12, 13 to start the day. Pretty stress-free as it can be around here. Obviously the hole-in-one on 2 was pretty special.”
Maguire is comfortable going low at the Evian Resort Golf Club. In 2021, she shot 61 in the final round. She finished T-6 that year, her best finish in the major to date.
“I always like it here,” Maguire said. “I think you have to be very patient, very accepting.”
