Lottie Woad continued her sensational year of golf, this time by making the cut at the Amundi Evian Championship.
And now, the 21-year-old esteemed amateur from England could wrap up an LPGA Tour card in the next two days. If Woad can finish in the top 25 at Evian Resort Club in France on Sunday, she will earn her 20th and final point under the new LPGA Elite Amateur Pathway (LEAP) program needed to gain full status on the LPGA Tour.
Woad shot a two-under 69 Friday after an opening-round 68. She’s tied for 12th, five shots behind leader Somi Lee.
“Yeah, it’s nice. I feel like the first two days usually are a little more stressful,” said Woad, who claimed her 19th LEAP point by making the cut in a major. “Now … I can play a little bit more freely over the weekend and just try to get that other one.”
Since her victory in 2024 at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur Championship, Woad has had plenty of success playing in amateur and professional competition—and gained lots of experience in majors. This is her seventh major start and the fourth time she’s made the cut.
The rising senior at Florida State had five birdies and three bogeys in her round. Woad felt like her score could’ve been even better. “Yeah, it was a bit mixed. It was quite frustrating to be honest,” Woad said. “I was leaving every putt short. But I was hitting it good, so I knew if I hung in there, there would be some chances at the end with the par 5s. Managed to hit some good shots there.”
To say Woad was coming into the week in good form is an understatement. Last Sunday, she won the KPMG Women’s Irish Open by six strokes over Madelene Sagstrom on the Ladies European Tour, and she went right to France and continued her fantastic play.
Asked how the victory boosted her confidence—winning in a field with some of the top players in the world like World No. 19 Charley Hull and others—Woad said: “I think a lot. Just getting ahead early and running away with it and just not making it too tight, just kind of gave me all the confidence I need really.”
Confidence that only seems to be growing.
