The clubs Chris Gotterup used to win the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open

Rory McIlroy and Chris Gotterup started the final round of the Genesis Scottish Open tied for the lead. The smart money would surely would have been on McIlroy in that matchup—and the smart money was … wrong.

Despite opening with a bogey, Gotterup responded with six birdies against one additional blemish while McIlroy didn’t make a birdie after the eighth hole. A crucial swing came at the par-5 16th where McIlroy only made par despite only having a wedge into the green while Gotterup produced a birdie, extending his lead to two with two holes to play.

Although Gotterup described his iron play as “loose” at times, he came up with a couple of beauties from long range Sunday at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. Gotterup nailed an iron shot to 10 feet from 205 yards at the seventh to set up a birdie and then staked his tee shot at the par-3 12th from 197 yards to inside three feet for another with his Bridgestone Tour B 220 muscleback blade irons.

When he was off the mark, Gotterup was able to convert 14 of 19 scrambling opportunities with his TaylorMade Milled Grind wedges. He was good on the greens as well, ranking second in putts per green in regulation and sixth in strokes gained/putting, nabbing more than seven shots on the field with his TaylorMade Spider Tour X putter, a model similar to the one McIlroy uses.

And now like McIlroy, he has a Genesis Scottish Open title on his ledger.
