WASHINGTON D.C. — The era of “quiet amnesty” is officially over. President Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has launched a massive reversal of Biden-era policies, reopening hundreds of thousands of deportation cases that were administratively closed or dismissed.
The move signals a return to strict enforcement of federal immigration law, stripping away the protections that allowed illegal aliens to remain in the country indefinitely without facing a judge. But as the federal government ramps up operations, local Democrat officials are fighting back—and one Arizona state senator may have crossed a legal red line.
REOPENING 700,000 CASES
Under the Biden-Harris administration, immigration judges were directed to “administratively close” deportation cases rather than adjudicate them, a tactic Republicans have long labeled “quiet amnesty.” A report by the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, chaired by Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA), revealed the staggering scale of this practice: over 700,000 illegal aliens had their cases dismissed or terminated.
“Biden chose to release millions of illegal aliens, including criminals, into the country and used prosecutorial discretion to indefinitely delay their cases,” DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News.
That discretion is gone. “Now, President Trump and Secretary Noem are following the law and resuming these illegal aliens’ removal proceedings and ensuring their cases are heard by a judge,” McLaughlin declared.
SENATOR FACES OBSTRUCTION CHARGES
As federal agents mobilize, tensions with local Democrats are exploding. Arizona State Senator Analise Ortiz is now under fire—and potentially facing criminal charges—after admitting on social media that she alerted residents to active ICE operations.
According to the popular conservative account “Libs of TikTok,” Ortiz posted alerts in English and Spanish, explicitly warning “ICE is present” and giving the specific location of federal agents.
DHS is not taking this lightly. Responding to the incident, McLaughlin suggested that Ortiz’s actions could constitute obstruction of justice.
“Arizona state Senator Analise Ortiz is siding with vicious cartels, human traffickers, and violent criminals over American citizens,” McLaughlin stated. “Notifying the public about ICE law enforcement operations endangers law enforcement and weakens American national security.”
“SIDING WITH CRIMINALS”
The stakes are deadly serious. DHS revealed that assaults on ICE agents have spiked by more than 1,000 percent in a single year. Officials blame the “vilification and demonization” of law enforcement by politicians like Ortiz for creating a dangerous environment.
“The men and women of ICE put their lives on the line every day to arrest violent criminal illegal aliens,” McLaughlin added. “Make no mistake, sanctuary politicians… are contributing to the surge in assaults.”
With “Libs of TikTok” publicly calling on Border Czar Tom Homan to file charges, the clash between the Trump administration and sanctuary state officials is moving from rhetoric to potential prosecution.
