Charley Hull is feeling “a lot better,” one day after she collapsed twice during the opening round of the Amundi Evian Championship, forcing her to withdraw from the women’s major.
Hull was taken off the course Thursday on a stretcher during her round. She cited a virus as the culprit. Hull shared an update her condition on Instagram:
“Not the @evianchamp I was hoping for. Been struggling with a virus all week but it got the better of me [Thursday]… thanks to the medics who took care of me and to all those who have reached out with messages of support, it’s really appreciated. Happy to say I’m feeling a lot better today, just gutted I can’t play the weekend at such a fantastic tournament 🩷🩷”
The 29-year-old British star had played 12 holes in one under par but was feeling faint during her opening round. After sitting down beside the third green at Evian Resort Golf Club in France, Hull went to the fourth tee but collapsed. She took a 15 minute medical break, but collapsed again after teeing off. She was taken off the course on a stretcher in a golf cart and given an IV treatment, according to the BBC.
An LPGA spokesperson said Hull was feeling better shortly after leaving the course and chatting in player dining later Thursday.
Hull, ranked No. 19 in the world, has two career wins on the LPGA Tour. This year, she has just one top 10. After missing the cut at the Chevron Championship, she had played well in the next two majors, finishing tied for 12th in the U.S. Women’s Open and KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
